Right up my street

So week 2 of the second year seems to have very quickly come round!! It has been an exceptionally busy week at work and home  so a change of scenery was very much enjoyed.

This week our subject is hospital discharge! Yes, this is my knowledge base, this is all I have done since moving into social care, I should know this. This is my comfort zone so I was looking forward to this session, and I wasn't disappointed! I felt able to contribute throughout with my own knowledge and experience and really enjoyed the session. My main reflections upon my feeling down this week's session are:

1. There are always things that we don't know about our own specialities (I didn't have a clue that LA'S had to apply for easement of the Care Act requirements during COVID).

2. Being in your comfort zone often isn't the best thing for you and your development. Even though I did learn from the session, I have to admit that I, personally, have learnt more in other sessions where I have no experience in the topic area.

I did come away from todays session feeling that I know my role quite well, and the legislation that backs up the work that I do.

Also, I will be honest and say that I was able to focus better today as my eldest son, who we have been visiting SEN schools for this week, had a much calmer day. However, it does hurt me to say that he is having ongoing difficulties with his emotional well-being. Whilst I was not worried for his or my wife's safety, which I was last week, I have drove home wondering what has been going through his head and how on earth I can try to help. This is my biggest challenge and focus at the moment, even with the apprenticeship, so I just hope that as a family we can continue to support him whilst I still have the head space to give my studies the effort that it needs.

Fingers crossed for a settled week ahead, I think we are looking at mental health next week which is another interest of mine!!
